Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has awarded Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group an EPC project valued at $2.84 billion for the Qatar Facility E Desalination and Combined Cycle Power Project in Doha.
The project, commissioned by Kahramaa under a consortium with Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation, involves the construction of a combined cycle power plant with a capacity of generating up to 2,400 MW of electricity and a large-scale desalination facility that will produce an average of 500,000 tons of water daily.
Located in the Ras Abu Fontas area, approximately 18 kilometers southeast of Doha, the total project cost is estimated at $3.7 billion. Upon its completion in 2029, the plant will contribute roughly 16% of Qatar’s total electricity supply and 17% of its desalinated water.
Lee Byung-soo, Vice President of the Energy Solutions Business at Samsung C&T, said: “As this is a national infrastructure project in Qatar, our existing experience and the trust we have built played a big role in winning the project. We will do our best to successfully complete the project and provide stable power and fresh water supply.”
