Red Sea Global (RSG), the developer behind Saudi Arabia’s regenerative tourism destinations The Red Sea and AMAALA, has announced the launch of Laheq Island, a new residential development set within The Red Sea project. The announcement marks the first development beyond Phase One of the wider destination, which began welcoming guests in 2023.
Scheduled to open in 2028, Laheq Island will be the first project within The Red Sea with a primary focus on residential property ownership. It will also feature a hospitality component, adding to the destination’s mix of resorts and accommodation options. The Red Sea currently operates five hotels and an airport serving both domestic and international flights.
“Whether it’s for guests visiting or residents who choose to own a piece of The Red Sea, at Laheq they will experience luxury living with an enriching resort community that brings people together and fosters life-long bonds,” said John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global.
Located within an archipelago of 92 islands off Saudi Arabia’s western coastline, Laheq Island spans 400 hectares and includes white sand beaches, coral reefs, and marine biodiversity unique to the region. The area is surrounded by the world’s fourth-largest barrier reef and supports more than 2,000 marine species.
The island has been masterplanned by architecture firm Foster + Partners, with the design concept named “Forever Garden” in reference to its use of green spaces and natural landscapes. The central feature is a circular structure, known as “The Ring”, measuring 800 metres in diameter. It will contain residential units, hotel accommodations, and retail outlets arranged around the island’s inner lagoon.
“Our vision is grounded in a deep appreciation for Laheq Island’s outstanding natural beauty. Residents and visitors are invited into a serene garden that engages all the senses and offers panoramic views of the magnificent surroundings,” said Norman Foster, Founder and Executive Chairman of Foster + Partners.
The Laheq Island project is part of RSG’s broader efforts to expand its real estate portfolio while integrating sustainable planning and conservation principles into its developments.
