SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX have partnered as the initial equity funders on the Stargate Project, a new company which intends to invest $500 billion over the next four years building new AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the United States.
The new AI infrastructure is aimed at securing American leadership in AI, creating American jobs, supporting the re-industrialization of the U.S., and providing a strategic capability to protect the national security of America and its allies.
Donald Trump, President of the U.S., commented: “There’s great competition for AI and other things, and they’re coming in at the highest level. So, we’re announcing the largest AI infrastructure project by far in history. Beginning immediately, Stargate will be building the physical and virtual infrastructure to power the next generation of advancements in AI, and this will include the construction of colossal data centers, which will be very massive structures. These big, beautiful buildings are going to employ a lot of people, and the physical campuses and locations are currently being scouted nationwide.”

SoftBank and OpenAI are the lead partners for Stargate, with SoftBank having financial responsibility and OpenAI having operational responsibility. Key initial technology partners of the Stargate Project include Arm, Microsoft, Nvidia, Oracle, and OpenAI.
Oracle, Nvidia, and OpenAI will closely collaborate to build and operate the computing system. This builds on a deep collaboration between OpenAI and Nvidia going back to 2016 and a newer partnership between OpenAI and Oracle. This also builds on the existing OpenAI partnership with Microsoft. OpenAI will continue to increase its consumption of Azure as OpenAI continues its work with Microsoft with this additional computing power to train leading models.
Construction of data centers underway in Texas
The partners have announced they will begin deploying $100 billion immediately.
Masayoshi Son, Chairman and CEO, SoftBank Group, said: “We will immediately start deploying $100 billion with a goal of deploying $500 billion within the next four years. Our ultimate goal is to help solve many issues with AI that could not have been solved otherwise.”
The buildout is currently underway, starting in Texas, and potential sites are being evaluated across the country for more campuses as definitive agreements are finalized.
Larry Ellison, Chairman and CTO, Oracle Corporation, said: “AI holds incredible promise for all of us and for every American. We’ve actually been working with open AI and SoftBank for a while, and now the first data centers are under construction in Texas. There are 10 buildings under construction, and each building is half a million square feet.
“One of the most promising applications of this AI infrastructure will be electronic health records. By using AI, doctors will have a better understanding of the condition of their patients and will be able to provide health care plans that are much better than they otherwise would be.”
